Incumbents Returned
There will be no municipal election for the town on March 8. The current mayor, Bill Queen, and commissioners, Gary Curtis, seat one, and Richard Bennett, seat two, were unopposed for reelection when the deadline for candidate filings was reached on Friday, December 17.
The returning officials will be sworn in for new two-year terms at the first regular meeting of the Town Commission following the election date. That will be March 10.
The other commission members are Jerry Knight, seat three, and Curtis Blocker, seat four.
Holiday Events Run As Scheduled: The Winners
Mother nature was kind to the town this year, providing clear, albeit brisk, weather for the traditional Christmas festivities.
The season kicked off with the annual tree lighting ceremony at Harold Radcliffe Park on December 3. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the following speak volumes:
The celebration concluded with the popular Holiday Lighted Boat Parade on Sunday, December 19. There were 21 boats entered in the judged contest. The winners were:
Class A
1st – Brian Kowalik
2nd – John Pickens
3rd – Tyler & Deborah Clark
Class B
1st – Dan Penn
2nd – Kenneth Straight
3rd – Mike Yagmin
Class C
1st –Tom Schaffer
2nd – Eugene Large
3rd – Patricia Parker
In between these two signature events, judges toured the community to select the homes with the best lighting effects. Winners this year were:
1st Place - Robert and Lisa Dyer - 427 Bath Club Blvd N
2nd Place - Robert and Amy McRanie - 17347 Kennedy Drive N
3rd Place - Jeff and Linda Busch - 350 Bath Club Blvd S

Two Down, Two To Go
Mother Nature was kind for the town's tree lighting on December 3 and the Santa parade on December 13. Town officials are hoping she continues to smile favorably for the annual lighted boat parade on Sunday, December 19. Before that, on the 16th, judges will be touring to pick this year's winners for best lighting.
