Town of North Redington Beach

The Town Commission, with only one item of note on its April agenda, spent a little time discussing plans for the future. The discussion will continue at a workshop scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, at Town Hall.

While no formal action can be taken, these meetings allow a more informal exchange of ideas, helping commissioners reach a consensus on issues that can later be considered at an official meeting. Like all meetings, the workshops are open to the public, and citizens who attend are generally invited to participate in the discussion.

The May 6 meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m.

One item that is certain to be on the agenda is the request from two of the town’s younger citizens for additional playground equipment at Harold Radcliffe Park. Their letters to Mayor Bill Queen were featured in last month’s edition of Town News on this website.

Following up on that request the mayor invited the youngsters to Town Hall to look at catalogs of potential playground enhancements. Only one could make that session. Both will be invited back when the commission is expected to zero in on decisions.

A look at the beautification of Gulf Boulevard is another item that is likely to be discussed. The town’s recently updated comprehensive plan designated an area known as the Gulf Boulevard corridor as a prime candidate for improvement. What exactly should be considered was left open, the commission expressing a commitment to consider any proposals that met the standards outlined in the plan’s vision statement. But beautification of the thoroughfare, including the placing of utility lines underground, was definitely part of what the town envisioned.

Getting more community participation in this next phase of planning was also an objective of the planning. How to achieve this will be a matter of continuing deliberation.

Finally, the commission can be expected to look at where additional improvements to the town’s code of ordinances are needed.

In the single action taken at the April meeting, the commission authorized realtors for the Redington Grande to erect a two sided sign in front of the building so that it is visible to traffic traveling in both directions on Gulf Boulevard.
