Town Celebration Big Hit
The reviews were all positive for this year’s July 4th celebration, even though there were a few plaintive pleas for resuming the fireworks in 2009. The fun that everyone had is pretty well captured in the photos that follow. Of particular note was the increase in youngsters participating in the parade and enjoying the treats at Harold Radcliffe Park. The balloon sculptor was an exceptionally popular addition.
Thanks to the private business that made it possible for Treasure Island to have fireworks. While it wasn’t the same as having them nearby, the display could be seen from the North Redington beaches, and quite a few people showed up to view them. If there is enough demand, Mayor Queen told the town commission, he could try to work on getting them back here.

Budget Workshop Scheduled
The Town Commission will hold a workshop at 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 5 to review the proposed budget for 2008-2009. They will meet in an earlier workshop on July 22 to consider a preliminary millage rate.
For the past two years, North Redington Beach has been a leader in applying the rollback provision of state law, which meant millage was reduced in the period by almost 25 per cent. If that same provision is applied for 2008-2009, there would be a slight increase in the rate. That’s because the assessed value for the town’s property has declined, thanks to Amendment 1 and lower property values.
The “roll” rate is intended to keep revenues constant on a year to year basis.
All workshops are open to the public.
Board Appointments
The town commission has appointed Joe Baldanza and Steve Busse to new three year terms on the Planning and Zoning Board. George Sailor was reappointed an alternate for the same term.
At the same time, Connie Jessup and Ruth Spears were named to new two-year terms on Beach Advisory Board, Nila Postupack will be an alternate for the same term.
Mayor Queen expressed the town’s appreciation for the services of these volunteers.
