Filing Dates Set For Election

It’s now official: the filing dates for candidates interested in two commission seats up for election in March 2010.

The filing period will begin on December 4 and run through December 18. Information and forms are available from the town clerk at Town Hall.

The election is for Seats 3 and 4, currently held by Jerry Knight and Curtis Blocker respectively.

Capital Improvements Plan OK'd

Each year, as required by state law, the commission extends its capital improvements plan to cover major infrastructure projects for the next five years. The plan outlines what work will be done, and, more importantly, shows that funds will be available to do it.

Details are available for inspection at Town Hall.

In the 2009-2010 fiscal year, many of the proposed improvements will take place in Radcliffe and Addie Graham parks, where additional playground equipment will be installed.

The town is also hopeful that beautification proposals will be implemented on Gulf Blvd. These are to be financed with Penny for Pinellas funds, and county officials are now reviewing the timing of the funds’ release.

Later in the plan’s time frame, the town proposes to repave local streets.

Dates Set For Community Events

Never too early to do planning for the Christmas holiday. Which is what town fathers have just completed.

Mark these dates:

December 4. The third annual tree lighting festivities, including a visit from Santa Claus. Start time is 6:30 p.m.

December 12. Santa’s annual excursion around town with help from friendly fire fighters and others and assorted goodies for spectators. Start time is around noon.

December 17. The house decorating contest judging takes place. Don’t forget to power up all of your decorations.

December 20. The Redington Beaches/Indian Shores boat parade in Boca Ciega Bay. Start time at south end is 6 p.m.

Looking Ahead to 2010

While considering events, Commissioner Richard Bennett announced that the Gulf Beaches Library’s third annual Food For Thought gala will be held next year on February 27. Same format as the first two successful events, in the area of Madeira Beach playlots behind the library’s Municipal Drive location.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Gary Curtis is hoping to get members of the Seminole High Marching Band to participate in next year’s July 4 parade. The band is looking for way to raise funds to help finance its appearance at the 2010 Thanksgiving Parade sponsored by Macy in New York.
