Commission Sets Elections
Action was completed November 13 on the ordinance that sets the filing and voting dates for town offices.
Three offices are up for election, Mayor and Commissioners for Seats 1 and 2.
To qualify for the ballot, candidates will have to file all necessary papers with the town clerk between Monday December 1 and Friday December 12. Voting will take place on Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
The filing dates were moved up one week to avoid conflict with the holiday season.
Once again, details are available at Town Hall
Sewer Repairs Close 173rd
The fact that 173rd Avenue has been closed near City Hall is not news. The prospect that the work going on there may be completed and the street reopened in the next three weeks or so should come as good news for all.
The closing was forced when crews had to reconstruct a major sewer line feeding the lift station near the town’s garage. That line carried sewage from Redington Shores, and it ran under the town’s building. When a major leak was discovered, the original line had to be abandoned and filled with concrete, and a new line installed. This required excavation in the street right of way.
North Redington Beach is incurring no cost for the work, but has had to weather the inconvenience.
Comprehensive Plan Amendments
A public hearing will be held at the Commission’s December 11 meeting on various amendments to the town’s Comprehensive Plan. The amendments grew out of a required evaluation and analysis of the plan. They mostly bring the plan in line with recent changes in state law, as well as updating the town’s capital improvements plan so that it lists projected improvements through the year 2013.
The changes were reviewed and approved by the Planning and Zoning Board, which acts as the town’s local planning agency. Commissioners unanimously passed the ordinance incorporating the amendments on its first reading on November 13.
Final action will be taken after a second reading and public hearing.
The amendments are available for viewing at Town Hall.
Library Action Taken
The Board of Gulf Beaches Library recently made staff and budget changes that are expected to keep the institution on firm ground and set the stage for reconstituting support from the consortium of communities that have traditionally backed the facility.
More work is to be done.
