Election News
There will be an election for Town Commissioner, Seat 4, on March 9, 2010. When the filing deadline passed on Friday, December 18, two candidates had filed the necessary papers to be on the ballot. They include Curtis Blocker, the incumbent commissioner who has held the seat since 2005, and John Messmore, a local businessman.
Jerry Knight, the incumbent Commissioner, Seat 3, since 2003, also filed. He is unopposed and will serve another two-year term.
Holiday Wrap
Ol’ man winter disrupted the town’s schedule of holiday events when an unusual downpour forced cancellation of the Christmas tree lighting on December 4 at Harold Radcliffe Park. With all the other holiday activities on tap, it was virtually impossible to reschedule.
There were threatening forecasts for the remaining holiday events, but they didn’t come to pass and the planned activity went off without a hitch.
It was sunny and warm for Santa’s caravan along town streets on December 12.
A crisp night helped judges score the lighting of residences on December 17.
And finally, the night was again crisp but calm as one of the more impressive cavalcades of holiday decorated boats took to the waters of Boca Ciega bay on December 20.
Boat Parade Winners
There were so many impressive entries that the average spectator didn’t envy the job of the judges who had to select among them. But as always they did their jobs well and proclaimed the following as winners. There were three classes in all, depending on boat size. Taking the prizes were:
